Dr. Bala received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Madras Medical College (MMC) and Research Institute in Chennai, India. He did his internal Medicine residency at Chicago Medical School and served as chief medical resident for an additional year after graduation. He then pursued Nephrology training at Tulane University, New Orleans. He served as the chief nephrology fellow for during his second year of training. He is a professional member of the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology.
He is currently an ASH certified specialist in Clinical Hypertension, ABIM Board Certified, ABIM Nephrology Certified, and certified in hemodialysis vascular access procedures by ASDIN. He has served as assistant professor of clinical medicine at the division of nephrology at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine.
He is widely published in hypertension and vascular access and serves as a reviewer in several medical journals. His areas of interest are hypertension, vascular access and ICU nephrology. He enjoys teaching and has given lectures at several national conferences. He is also an associate of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society.
He is happily married and has 2 children. He enjoys travel and spending time with family.
